In the autumn of 2013 AIG started building a strategic centre in Sofia whose main focus is on supporting the operations of the European business units of the company, as well as optimizing and improving the existing processes. Currently we are a team of nearly 500 people, supporting our customers (consumer and business clients) from more than 10 countries in Europe in 4 main business functions: Claims and Claims Operations, Policy Servicing, Travel Guard and Multinational. AIG CoE core business functions are:

  • Policy Servicing: The department is responsible for issuing insurance policies, endorsements and cancellations, as well as the administration of relevant consumer and commercial lines insurance products.
  • Claims: Our claims teams deal with investigation, evaluation and settlement of assigned claims by collecting and analysing data, according to the insurance policy application form and its policy provisions. They also decide whether to pay or reject an insurance claim based the information provided by the claimant.
  • Claims Operations: Our Claims Operations department is responsible for reviewing all invoices and appropriate documentation, and approval prior to payment, validating the expense/indemnity payments and bordereaux processing.
  • Travel Guard: The team provides assistance and emergency medical travel services to customers, including pre-travel advice, cost containment, and identifying potential recovery opportunities. In the process they liaise with individual customers, corporate clients and service providers.
  • Multinational Network Partner Practice: The department is responsible for the administration of AIG’s multinational programme. Their responsibilities include coordination between AIG’s producing offices and our multinational network partners worldwide. The main processes include verification of request forms, booking the assumed reinsurance premiums and validating policies.


AIG CoE supporting functions:

  • Project Management and Strategy: The department supports the planning, coordination, execution and implementation of key projects for the centre, related to migration of work, process optimization, standardization and other added value initiatives in the region.
  • Training: The team develops and executes customized process training and personal development training programmes to ensure that our employees acquire the professional knowledge they need, and that they continuously improve their personal skills and competences.
  • Quality: The department is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the centre’s quality methodology, promoting and overseeing the use of the established Quality Management procedures and best practices, in order to support operational excellence. One of its main goals is to ensure all necessary tools are in place to ensure the company's products meet clients’ expectations.
  • Metrics and Reporting: The team creates various regular and ad-hoc reports, develops tools and implements technical solutions to ensure a data-driven business decision making approach and to support a transparent performance management culture.
  • Performance and Value Excellence: Delivering excellent Customer Service is a key focus for the Sofia CoE Process Excellence Team.  Their commitment for improvement is recognized as a strong contributor to the overall success of the business, impacting on Customer satisfaction and Company performance. Through the internal Process Excellence programme – Extra Mile – the team supports employees’ career development within AIG by delivering Lean Six Sigma White, Yellow and Green Belt trainings, mentoring programmes and opportunities for international certification.
